To follow up on my last post, I would like to talk more about Accent Modification or the term I like to use - American English Dialect Coaching. As my previous post discussed, Accent Modification, or Dialect Coaching, is an elective service sought by individuals who want to sound as though they are a native speaker, by changing or modifying their pronunciation of words in a second language, such as English. Usually, the main focus is learning to correctly pronounce sounds in American English, but it can also include understanding idioms or confusing terms. Accent Modification is also for individuals who are having difficulty being easily understood by others at work or in social situations.
If you think Dialect Coaching might be helpful for you, we would start with a meeting, either in person or by phone, to discuss what your goals are, why you are seeking Dialect Coaching, what communication barriers you are experiencing, and at what level you would feel comfortable and confident with your English language skills. From there we would set up a specific plan to work on various skills in English: sounds, intonation, idioms. The sessions would be specific to your needs and your goals.
This is just some quick information on what Accent Modification is and what it would look like. If you have any further questions, please reach out!
